Co4 Dance on Camera

Dance on Camera has been a hybrid program taught both in person and on zoom to teach fundamental and advanced skills for filmmaking in the movement genre. There are three focuses that are offered and can be combined in a workshop setting or master class.

With the growing need for the use of digital media and film to tell our stories, this course will bring you up to speed and prepare you to create films and content that help share your story.

  • Primarily for dancers who have not have experience with a camera, we teach the fundamentals of filmmaking, from conceptualizing to logistical aspects of budgeting and producing your film. We also focus on understanding our equipment and the medium of film with a technical focus.

  • This focus is rooted in making dance choreography for film. We study the lens, understand its impact on our movement making, and know-how to build a dance film from the movement perspective. This course is best taken after the fundamentals course.

  • After completing the fundamentals and movement for the lens, you are equipped to move on to fully producing a dance film. This course will walk you through each stage until you have a completed film to share.
